It would be wise to organise these games neatly in their own folders like i have.
DS roms do NOT need to be extracted, they're readable as ZIP files when using DeSmuMe, However it may be a good idea to extract the .gba for FoMT.
One thing to mention, DeSmuMe is NOT a gameboy advance emulator, but it WILL identify them and it WILL crash when it tries to play them.
This is the Confusing part... Linking the Roms together.
Emulation > GBA slot
This screen will pop up
Browse for the gba game, which should be in your DS ROM folder and click Ok
To check that the DS can identify the gba game, you need DS BIOS and FIRMWARE (Resources)
download them and extract them to a subfolder in your DS pathway appropriately named Firmware. Now you need to link the emulator to them.
Config > Emulation Settings.
This part is simple, Connect ARM9 to biosnds9 and ARM7 to biosnds7
and connect Firmware to.... Firmware
and tick the boxes like i have done.
Open the Harvest moon DS rom
Pretty neat huh?
Note that the gba game has been identified, That is good. Launch the DS game and keep these settings on temporarily.
Taada, It is tuesday and karen is in the valley, This means that the link worked! It is probably good to mention that it is difficult to tell whether the link has worked, sleep in your house, check what day it is and see if the character for that day has arrived in the valley, This may take some time.
Once the link is made you don't need to use the firmware anymore, it may reduce performance anyway, once you're sure the link is made, change the emulation settingsGoodluck!
when I Connected ARM9 to biosnds9 and ARM7 to biosnds7and connected Firmware to Firmware then I Open the Harvest moon DS rom, why "there is no game pak inserted" ????? it didn't work!! :( help me!! :(
ReplyDeleteTry again using Emulation > Slot 1 > Retail with NAND flash
Deleteand Emulation > GBA slot > GBA game, making sure the harvest moon FoMT is selected. then open the ds game normally, it doesn't need to be extracted
It could be something to do with emulator versions, mine is 0.9.8
Help please :<
ReplyDeleteEverything went well, up until Desmume reloaded looking like a DS screen. The GBA game was there, as well as the DS Harvest Moon, but when I clicked the DS game, it made the little ding and went white, then stayed white :x So... it just wont load.
Im useing the 0.9.9, so I dont know if that has anything to do with it.. But help please :x
uncheck all the firmware settings and load up the game as before and play the game to check if the characters are there, my version was 0.9.8 at the time and the firmware worked for me, though still caused problems
DeleteOh I got it. it was because of 0.9.9, I had the dynamic recomplier checked.
Deleteum i have a question for you
ReplyDeletei have connected the hmds with FoMT,and i checked the music disc at the harvest sprite tree and i get the extra music from FoMT
but i havent see the person from mineral town (ex:i can't find karen on tuesday everywhere)
please give me a help
oops
Deletesorry, now its worked after i reset it many times
thanks
Once the link is made you don't need to use the firmware anymore, it may reduce performance anyway, once you're sure the link is made, change the emulation settings
ReplyDeleteGoodluck!
I'd like to know how to set the emulation setting after the link is done, got no idea here and then after few laggy moments with firmware, my desmume crashed. Thanks.
Once it's done you just need to untick 'use of external BIOS image' and use of external firmware image as well.
Deleteit will load up games like before
Hi! I'm using version 0.9.10 and every time I try to put in the GBA file it crashes... What do you suggest I do? :/
ReplyDeleteoh, never mind. I got it to register now, but it's still very much prone to crashing.
Deleteuh, hi im also using 0.9.10, what did you do to remove the crashing?
Deleteyes tell us pl0x
Delete0.9.10 keeps crashing. how do you do this with the newer version?
ReplyDeleteIve been looking for an answer for days now and no one online can explain, they just give links to old tutorials.
Hello, help please!
ReplyDeleteI use the 0.9.10 version and when I open the FoMT GBA the screen turns white and it said that the DESMUME is not responding (I use Windows 7)
When I re-open the DESMUME its still blank white.
What should I do?
Thanks.
Hiya! I need help T^T I'm using mac, so do you happen to have any resources I could use in this situation? That would help a lot. Thank you ^0^
ReplyDeleteHey Guys,I had found the Solution!! You guys need to make a ' .sav ' file with the same name as your FoMT name <<< I will give you hint step by step :
ReplyDelete1)Go to your FoMT gba game and right click on it.
2)Pick out the option that says ''Rename''.
3)Copy the name of the FoMT without the .gba extension . Example :
''Harvest Moon - Friends of Mineral Town.gba'' into ''Harvest Moon - Friends of Mineral Town'' <<<< without the .gba extension.
4)Go make a new text file from the desktop and right click on it . Pick out the option that says ''Rename'' and Paste the name of the Game at there..
5)Change the extension of the text file as an Example : ''Harvest Moon - Friends of Mineral Town.txt'' <<< only edit the '' .txt '' and change into the ''.sav '' and then tap '' ENTER '' on keyboard.
6)Move the file exactly to where you put the GBA ROM of FoMT in the same folder. Example : The admin says to put the ROM of FoMT in the Roms folder of DeSmuMe. Put the .sav file and the FoMT in the ''Roms'' Folder.
7)Lastly,tried to load the FoMT bck from the ''Slot 2 (GBA Slot) . Change it into Gba catridge and choose the FoMT path . Now it will not crash and says not responding anymore and you can continue your next step to link the game . :)))))))
Thank you sooooooooo much! I didn't think this would actually be possible and just searched on a whim! Note that some names/menus are slightly different on newer versions, and the characters for me showed up the NEXT day. xoxo

ReplyDeleteHi, actually, everything worked for me. I checked the comments and etc, the only thing that I have a problem with is that the GBA isn't recognized . . . Which means the message "There is no game pak inserted" has shown up.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as you said, I have 0.9.11 verson of DeSmuMe. I would love if anyone could help me out with this problem . . . I'd totally be grateful. Thank you !
Actually, I managed to find how to do it. But I still have a question . . .
DeleteRecently, I've been saving my game on the emulator instead of the IG save. However, after doing all this and wanted to load my old game. . . . The game just freezes. I can't move, I can't do anything.
Is this . . . Normal? :(
PS : If yes, I'mma be so pissy. I WAS RICH. FINALLY !
hey, im also using the 0.9.11 version but i cant seem to figure out how to do it, can you please help me with this? i tried downloading the 0.9.8 version and it worked but i have to replay everything all over again
DeleteI think I know why it crashes because I tried making a blank sav file and desmume still crashes, what I did is I undid the .bin and firmware and viola it now works and and yes Mineral Town characters visit the valley
ReplyDelete*undo
DeleteIn other words you don't need the .bin and firmware files or don't mess with the emulation settings.
thank youuu
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a few months too late. I can't find the Harvest Moon: DS file anywhere! It's my favorite HM game, but I have the rare glitched version and could never properly play on my DS (game files would corrupt frequently). I'm sad!
ReplyDeleteI have found that this site is very informative, interesting and very well written. keep up the nice high quality writing. HMDS
ReplyDeleteHello guys,
ReplyDeleteI'll try help a few of you trying to make this work on version 0.9.11.
Here are the steps:
1) I downloaded vba emulator.
2) Ran my FoMT there and skipped through the stories and namings. When the day started, I went ahead, saved and exported it (to do this I did File>Export>Battery File). This was saved in a .sav format. I saved this file in the same folder my Harvest moon ds was located.
I'm not sure if step 1 and 2 are required but I did this to get the proper .sav file and not just a blank .sav file created manually. Incase your desume version do not ask for the SRAM cardrige file, this step can be skipped.
3) I then went ahead and copied my FoMT .gba game file in the same folder.
4) Renamed my Harvest moon ds game, FoMT game and the .sav file with the same name.
5) Next, I went to emulation SLOT2 settings as mentioned above and chose gba cartridge. Browse .gba file to the ROM cartridge file and the .sav file to the SRAM cartridge file. Click on Apply.
6) Once done, go to your game diary (not the desume saving slot that works with shift+number but the actual game saving diary slot) and save your latest game to one of the two diary slots (Diary1 or Diary2).
7) Now Quite/Close desume (You'll be prompted if settings should be saved, click yes).
8) Start desume again and load the harvest moon ds game. Load your saved game in that diary and play as normal.
9) To see if this took effect, you can go to the harvest sprite tree and check if Jet is selling the "Friend of M.T." records.
10) The girls/guys from mineral town should be entering the valley from the next day onwards.
Note: If incase you do not see the changes, I would suggest you do till step 5 and quit desume after saving all changes. Then start desume, load your latest game and continue with step 6.
Also, I did not touch the bios&firmware settings. I suggest you don't do anything with it.
Incase the rest of the people faces the blank white screen and slow game issue(cause you've probably meddled with the firmware), just reset your emulation settings (for mac users: delete desume preferences setting you'll find in the Finder devices under desume) and start again with the above steps.
For other versions as well, please save your latest play on the diary saving slot inside the game and then restart desume and load that for the change to be observed.
After that, you can continue playing normally.
Hi! I don't know if you will see my question as it's so late but I tried everything you said and it still does not work... I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. My game does not crash or anything but the characters aren't there and I did everything, changed the names of the files, quit desmume after putting the gba file, saved on the game and it still doesn't work... If you see this could you help me please, I'm desperate...
